Social media has come a long way from its beginning. It has become a sophisticated marketplace for some, while for others it has become a place where they read their daily news.
Thousands and millions of people make content every day in hopes of gaining social credibility online including social media companies Malaysia, others in the hope of raising awareness, and others are simply enjoying playing with colors and experimenting.
But social media has a lot of consequences for our future. I like to believe the consequences are good if we manage to use social media as a resource. Rather than a past-time habit, realizing the power of social media for our personal development can take a different approach to its consumption. So how does it similarly help a student grow? Does it even help their career in the long run?
If used well. Absolutely. Social media can be a great asset to students breaking into the world of responsibilities. Social media can be resourceful without the need for having someone teach you. There are millions of people to follow my lead and tutorials on how to use it effectively. Social media can be a safe space for students to explore their fuel for activism or their creative soul, or even for the educational guru in them. If you love teaching, there are thousands who would love to be taught. If you like art, there are millions willing to be your muse, feedback, support, and criticism. If you have an opinion, there are hundreds who will agree and hundreds who will challenge you to think from many more perspectives as well.
With all that in mind, here are some ways students can use social media to get a head start on their careers.
Building Your Social Network
Social media is where everyone is. Your source for on paper credentials, expert insights, forging connections with industry leaders or even potential leaders, this is where you truly make your connections. Your future employer is also on social media! A student has so many opportunities on social media to create a presence that will help with their social network. Creating a million followers can be important, but it may be more important to have a pool of credible followers and following. What you attract is what you sought out in social media. Whether we want to detangle ourselves from social media or not, it is impossible now. It is one of the things that even interviewers look out for. Having a credible stream of mutuals and an established network puts you ahead of the rest of your peers.
Increasing Social Credibility Through A Portfolio
Social credibility associated with your name increases, the more you showcase your work. When we increase our exposure, the more attention we get for our work on social media, our social credibility increases. This is also a milestone in creating a stronger social network that will help our career in the future.
If we start building our portfolio from the get-go through social media, there is a good chance that we might even get a job offered through the social media forum. Many get offered to be ambassadors or offers to become the newest intern or their social media manager. There is always an opportunity waiting for you in every corner of social media.
