The World Health Organization (WHO) recorded that 1.35 million people die each year due to traffic accidents. That statistic is concerning as it is hard to believe that so many people lost their lives because of car crashes instead of old age and diseases. Even in Malaysia, car accidents happen all the time and it is not helping that people still do not think this is a serious issue to be aware of. It is heartbreaking to see how kids lost their parents at a very young age or married people losing their partners due to accidents. Car accidents happen even more during the holiday seasons as the road is overflowing with an extraordinary amount of vehicles. Besides that, there are many other causes of car accidents and let’s educate ourselves about them.
Inconsistent Car Servicing
The car you own should be serviced at least a few times a year so that you can check that it is still safe to be driven. This is important because in a session of car servicing, they would do cleaning and inspection of the car’s condition. A thorough check up will be done to make sure that there are no electrical issues, the air conditioning is working, the clutch and gear works properly, the tyre is not worn off and there are no body damages detected on the car. Inconsistent car servicing could cause car accidents as the car is not safe to be driven. As an example, it might slip on the wet road during a heavy rain because of your failure to do consistent car servicing.
The Condition of Driver Is Not Ideal
Car accidents are bound to happen if you drive with the influence of alcohol or you are not in a good condition. It is dangerous if you drive after drinking alcoholic drinks as it can affect your vision and physical ability. What’s even worse is that you can be involved in a hit-and-run incident where innocent people are being dragged because of your mistakes. Moreover, do not drive when you are not feeling good or sleepy. Ask someone else you can trust to drive or it’s even better if you grab a taxi rather than risking your own safety by driving.
Avoid Distractions While Driving
There have been many cases where accidents happened because the drivers were distracted by something else. Common cases were the drivers that got distracted by their smartphones where they were answering calls or messaging with only one hand on the steering wheel. There are even cases where the drivers got into an accident because they were not focused on driving, but to their environment. For example, they get curious to see an accident scene on their right that they lose concentration when driving.
Some drivers ignore the speed limit and drive as fast as they like without thinking of the consequences their action might have caused. Young drivers love to show off their driving skills by speeding on the road. They are not scared of the authorities and it’s nothing surprising that car crashes happen because of this.
It is important that people be considerate of each other when they are on the road. No matter what car you are driving, remember to prioritise safety above everything else because your life matters. Remember your loved ones when you drive and don’t be a reckless driver if you are in a rush to go somewhere. If you are aware of all these, then have fun driving!
